The new Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit (CWLB) is a new COVID-19 related support program that is administered by the Canada Revenue Agency.
If you are employed or self-employed and cannot work due to a COVID-19 lockdown order, you may be able to apply for this benefit as applications have opened for eligible regions.
The benefit allows those eligible to receive up to $300 ($270 after tax deductions) per week. Application is on a per week basis and you can retroactively apply for periods between October 24, 2021 and May 7, 2022.
Eligibility requires that you reside in Canada, are at least 15 years old, have a valid social insurance number, were present during the period being applied for and that you did not receive other benefits such as EI for the period. You must also have earned $5,000 in 2021 or 2020 or in the 12 months before your application. You must also have filed a 2020 tax return.
The lockdown benefit is only available to those in affected regions and those who unable to continue to work or lost your job.
